Spain and Australia are the most popular choices for Brits looking to retire overseas, according to a study conducted by Retirement Solutions.
The equity release specialist used Google search data of various combinations of different search terms to create a list of the top ten most searched retirement destinations.
Five European countries made the cut, with Portugal coming in as the third most popular option ahead of France in sixth position, Italy in seventh and Greece in tenth.
Countries outside Europe that also made the top ten were Thailand, Canada, India and New Zealand.
"Retiring abroad is very appealing to many Brits," said Retirement Solutions. "One thing that many people may not get to experience as well as they would like to is visiting different countries and exploring new cultures.
"It's interesting to see the variety of countries that make the top ten."
The findings come after Penfold research found Google searches for ‘best country to retire to from the UK' rose 94% in the 12 months to October 2022. Lifestyle considerations and the instability of the UK's economy were cited as key reasons.
