Nomura Asset Management U.K. Limited (NAM UK) has announced that Magashlin Chetty has joined the firm as an executive director and assistant portfolio manager, based in London.
He will be a member of the Emerging Markets Corporate Bond team led by Meno Stroemer at Nomura Corporate Research and Asset Management Inc. (NCRAM). Chetty will also support NCRAM's European High Yield Bond strategy.
Most recently, Chetty worked as a senior emerging market analyst at Vanguard in London, where he focused on issuers based in Asia and Africa. Previously he worked at Zurich-based Fisch Asset Management across several emerging market bond strategies. He earned his BSc in Chemistry with Management from Imperial College, in addition to being a qualified chartered accountant.
NAM said that the appointment would "further enhance Nomura's emerging market fixed income asset management capabilities."
"In addition to EM corporate bond portfolios, NCRAM manages emerging markets hard currency sovereign mandates. Nomura Asset Management also maintains teams that manage Asia-focused credit and global EM local currency strategies."
Chetty's former link to Fisch AM follows the related appointment reported in January 2023 (https://www.investmentweek.co.uk/news/4062363/nomura-bolsters-em-corporate-bonds-team-hire-fisch) of New York based Meno Stroemer joining NCRAM from Fisch AM.
Also in January, it was reported (https://www.investmentweek.co.uk/news/4063142/nomura-makes-manager-hire-launch-corporate-hybrid-bond-strategy) that NAM had hired Julian Marks as head of hybrid bonds within the firm's fixed income team. Reporting to Yuji Maeda, head of fixed income, Marks joined from Neuberger Berman, where he had spent 15 years.
Then in February, NAM appointed Kevin McFarlane as regional sales director covering the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland (https://www.investmentweek.co.uk/news/4076532/nomura-names-sales-director). McFarlane brought with him over 30 years' industry experience, including time spent in senior positions at SVM Asset Management, Premier Miton, Schroders, and Standard Life. The role tasked him with reporting to Jon Nash, head of UK and Ireland wholesale distribution, and helping drive growth of Nomura's wholesale business, and promoting its products and its strategic partner, American Century Investments.
