Malta Financial Services Authority's CEO Joseph Gavin has resumed his role after being "indisposed" from 15 June.
The MFSA had not given any reason behind Gavin's absence or any indication of when he might return when it issued the earlier statement and named chief officer of enforcement, Dr Michelle Mizzi Buontempo, as acting CEO in his absence.
The MFSA said in a short statement on 27 July: "With reference to the news release issued on 15 June 2022, the MFSA would like to advise that its CEO, Mr Joseph Gavin, will resume his role with effect from 28 July 2022. The Authority would like to thank Chief Officer Enforcement, Dr Michelle Mizzi Buontempo, for taking up the role of Acting CEO in Mr Gavin's absence."
On 15 June the MFSA said in a brief statement that it "would like to advise that its CEO, Mr Joseph Gavin, is currently indisposed. The Board of Governors has appointed Chief Officer Enforcement, Dr Michelle Mizzi Buontempo, as Acting CEO in Mr Gavin's absence, effective 15 June 2022."
Gavin became the CEO at MFSA in September 2021 after his predecessor Joseph Cuschieri was forced to resign.
Before temporarily taking over, Buontempo was the regulator's chief officer of enforcement, appointed to that role in March 2020 after spending five years as the regulator's head of conduct supervision.
