Pierre-Alexis Dumont has joined Paris-headquartered Sycomore AM as chief investment officer to lead a team of 23 fund manager/analysts.

His brief will be to run the firm’s investment activities, establish the strategic priorities and enhance its investment process, the Paris-headquartered asset manager said in a statement on 18 June.

Dumont (pictured) has over 28 years’ experience in asset management and has covered a wide range of investment capabilities – fundamental, thematic, quantitative – with proven skills in driving and managing change.

He will support Denis Panel, chief executive officer of Sycomore AM, with the implementation of the “Shaping 2028” transformation plan aimed at strengthening and diversifying Sycomore AM’s expertise and investment strategies, with a view to delivering sustainable financial performance.

Dumont has built his career within large financial groups, where he acquired in-depth knowledge of the regulatory environment. He also developed strong operational and organisational skills. This new chapter will be an opportunity for him to apply his ideas and expertise to serve Sycomore AM’s mission, within a flexible and dynamic framework.

Panel said: WWe are delighted to welcome Pierre-Alexis to our team at Sycomore. His invaluable experience within the industry, both as a portfolio manager and head of investment teams, will be instrumental in helping us to achieve the ambitious targets we have set for our company."

Pierre-Alexis Dumont said: “I am excited to be joining Sycomore AM, an asset manager that pioneered responsible investment and stands out for its unique entrepreneurial spirit and people-driven approach, which it has managed to preserve over the years. I was particularly attracted by the firm’s pledge to support the development of a more inclusive and sustainable economy through strong investment decisions and shareholder stewardship, without losing sight of the need to deliver financial returns.”

Dumont, 53, began his career in 1996 as an equity manager at State Street where he was later appointed head of active portfolio management. Between 2000 and 2002, he served in various private banking roles, including as CIO of Morgan Online and head of multi-management and deputy managing director of UBS France.

He then returned to the asset management industry as head of European equity management at CPR AM between 2002 and 2005, and then as senior European equity manager at OFI AM between 2005 and 2011.

In 2012, he joined Groupama AM where he served as head of the Sigma team (absolute return) for 3 years, and later as head of equity and convertible bond investments for 7 years. He was then appointed head of equity, convertible bond and multi-asset investments, a position he held until recently. When serving in this role, he and his teams were responsible for €22bn in assets under management on behalf of internal (insurance and network) and external clients (institutional investors and distributors).

Founded in 2001, Sycomore Asset Management is an asset manager specialised in listed investments and driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, part of Generali Investments’ ecosystem of asset management firms.
